Not a Flag in the Sun / Keine Flagge in der Sonne, 2022

The DAAD Artists-in-Berlin invites former fellows to realize a comprehensive exhibition of their work, occupying the entire two floors of the Daadgalerie space.
Not a Flag in the Sun 2020-2022 comprises newly commissioned artworks realized from the outset of the covid lockdown and a selection of works realized since the artist duo moved to Berlin in 2002. It is an attempt by the artists to imagine their immediate world and the context of the present during that period. The exhibition combines architecture, sculpture, and bi-dimensional artworks realized in collaboration and individually.
Time in Numbers 2020-2022 is a 310x 750x 2 cm acrylic on canvas and sewed fabric painting Zinny started in April 2020. With the 2019-2020- fragment and no plan, the years began to follow as the foreseen outcome of the future. Amid the uncertainty, the numbers revealed themselves as numerals, arbitrarily designed patterns.
With a series of pencil drawings From Pink to Red 2022, 30x30 cm each, Dolores replicates the density of the red spectrum in the sky on a particular day. The pencil drawings Atlas, the Shape of our Time 2022, 21x27cm each, are studies of representational models of our world.
In Not a Flag in the Sun and Keine Flagge in der Sonne, Juan uses a similar approach, unfolding nomination and iconography where letter colors provide an admonition mirroring an abstract design symbolizing a flag.
Works from former Zinny-Maidagan exhibitions, such as; Das Abteil, 2010; Cape Name 2013, Such a Good Cover, 2003, and Costuras Emplomadas, 2014 expand the exhibition's reading.
